Nick is back with oil filters so we got the oil changed on the bikes, gassed up and ready to go. I am ready for the road again. We are getting out of here early tomorrow to try to make an early border crossing to Guatemala. I am excited about a new country.
Our mantra for the Journey we are now undertaking. For those of you who don't know, your crazy friend/relative/colleage has left his comfortable home in November to hop on a motorcycle and head to South America. Not just to South America but to visit most of the countries there and make it all the way to the tip.
South 'till there is no South no more
I left Price, UT on the 6th of November, 2009 for points South. I am meeting up with my friend, Nick Lucas, in Texas on the 8th and we are headed South. The schedule and definition of this journey is ... Ya. You got it. We don't know. You can find out here almost as soon as we know. We are just going. We have defined the beginning of this journey but don't know where the end will be.
Everything you do in life has the "one thing" that makes the decision for you. That "one thing" is all that matters. You come up with lots of "other reasons", but they are just window dressing. The logic that you use to convince your friends, spouse, girlfriend, relative, etc. that this is a great idea and you're not really crazy. I can come up with lots of "other reasons", crossing the Panama Canal, Cartegena, Lima, Macchu Picchu, etc.
But the real deal, the "one thing" for me is, I want to ride a motorcycle between the Pacific Ocean and the 26,000 foot peaks of the Peruvian and Chilean Andes. If there was nothing else to see, I would go anyway just for this.
BTW, the "one thing" that made me buy this bike in the first place was this trip. Making "one thing" lead to another "one thing"

Nick Lucas
My partner in crime on this adventure. Great guy and fun to be around. He has been adventuring on his BMW F800GS since he bought it last year. He has put close to 40,000 miles on it in that time. The mantra, Before the Revolution's Over, was his idea.
