16-Jan-2010 8150 Miles

Topped 8000 miles today. If you think I skipped a day, your right. Nick was recovering so we just stayed in San Bartolo. I got some work done. Some laundry done. Went swimming in the ocean, it was great. Not so great for Nick, he is better today but still weak. We made it Nasca where the wierd geogliphs are. We will take a flight tomorrow and check them out. We did stop at a museum in Palpa and looked around. Lot of neat stuff, but most of the really good stuff had been looted before they started studying this place.

The pics enclosed are about the best of the scenary that coastal Peru has to offer. I am ready to head to the mountains again. We got to ride sideways today in nice desert winds and taste sand for about 250 miles. I don't remember reading anything about that in the Peruvian Chamber of Commerce Brochure. Did I say I was ready to head into the mountains again? We will be tomorrow as we head up to Cusco for a look at Macchu Picchu. After all the remoteness that we have been through I don't know how well we will deal with all the tourista's. From here through the rest of Peru we will be on the well beaten tourist path. We will see.
Met 6 guys from Venezuala here in Nasca. The are all on motorcycles like mine and are touring the continent. We may run into them again as we are kind of going the same direction.

  1. Glad to note that you and Nick are alive well.
Will they let you take control of the plane at Nazca?

Don't be in such a rush see Machu Picchu! Spend some time in Arequipa and visit Colca Canyon along the way. Not to mention the many interesting things in and around Cusco.

Keep the shiny side up and your nose up in the turns.

    Aloha,
